In February, 1997, I sent off a bunch of strips called "Binky Remembers" to editor of the local free weekly. A week later he called, saying they were running them, and a career was born. Shortly before the debut, I changed the to You Damn Kid. It has been running in that same paper ever since. I drew them with a bic pen and would drive to the paper every week to drop them off. Interesting note - the family name was "Beevnick."
